Every September, the Province of Siquijor comes together to celebrate its communities, culture, and the natural heritage that makes the island unique.
This year, as part of the 55th Adlaw sa Probinsya sa Siquijor celebration, CRCP was pleased to join the Provincial Government of Siquijor and its Agriculture Office in its booth exhibit at the Capitol during its annual Agri-Tourism Trade Fair from September 14-17.
Anchored on the theme “Malig-on nga Siquijodnon, Malamboon nga Kaugmaon,” the fair displayed local agri-products, handicrafts, talents and highlights from each of the province’s six municipalities.
Along with the Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation (CCEF) and Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), CRCP was happy to help showcase the island’s remarkable biodiversity and highlight the importance of protecting the island’s natural ecosystems and wildlife for both the benefit of people and nature. Each organization presented some of their local actions and conservation successes, working together towards the same goal of a well protected province’s natural heritage.
Throughout the event, many curious visitors came by the booth to discuss biodiversity and conservation, read some of our scientific reports, watch our videos and hear our call for conservation. They shared their interests and concerns about the future of Siquijor’s environment.
Bringing together governments, conservation organisations, people’s organizations and community, initiatives like this allow to share knowledge, communicate results and strengthen partnerships and collaborations for conservation. Most importantly, they help keep environmental protection at the forefront of conversations about the future of Siquijor.
We are grateful to Siquijor Provincial Government and the Siquijor Agriculture Office for inviting CRCP to take part in this celebration along with partner NGOs WCS and CCEF and for creating a space where biodiversity and conservation could be shared.
