Why SIQUIJOR /
Jewel of biodiversity.
Well known for its healers and reputation of magic, the island of Siquijor is a prized destination for nature. Its history is well rooted in the determination of the islanders in remaining true to their roots, cultural values and heritage. Here, it is anchored in the inseparable link between people and nature. Herbalism is common practice, and communities deeply dependent on their forests and coastal resources for medicine, food and livelihood.
Despite its small size (343.5 square km), Siquijor hosts lush forests with rich diversity and many endemic species. In the mountain tops, healers and community members commonly go harvest rare medicinal supply from native trees, roots and flowers while making sure that the forests keep on thriving.
The island is as well well known for its caves and underground system, its rivers, springs and many waterfalls.

Located in the Mindanao sea (or bohol sea) and at the entrance of the protected seascape Tañon straight (largest protected area in the country) and in between Cebu, Negros, Bohol and Mindanao, Siquijor Island is a coralline island prized for its first class marine biodiversity. Its position at very interesting crossroad for many migratory species, along for larval dispersion in the Visayas, secures its rich and diverse waters abundant with marine life and thriving coral reefs.
All around, the island offers Mangroves forests, seagrass beds and shallow fringing coral reefs. Some areas offers spectacular wall reefs and rich mesophotic reefs in addition to the stunning shallow ones.
