Seasons
Siquijor Island is blessed with generally calm and sunny weather and diving is available all year round. This is due to the fact that the weather is usually unaffected by extreme monsoon because of the geographic location of the island, protected by larger islands in the mindanao Sea. On average, the air temperature ranges from 24 to 33°C and water temperature from 32°C to 24°C in the coldest months. The weather is driven by two main seasons or winds, Amihan and Habagat.
Amihan
Generally from November to June, the North eastern Amihan winds bring fresh and dry air from the Asian Continent. During this time, the weather is good and progressively warming up to reach its hotest and dryest time in May-June. While Enrique Villanueva, Larena and Siquijor coastlines are windy and wavy at that time, San Juan, Lazi and Maria will be offering calm waters perfect for scuba diving / snorkeling / free diving. We highly recommend a dive in Maite or Tubod Sanctuary in San Juan at this time.
Habagat
In June, the wind will change, and Habagat (south-west monsoon) will bring hot and humid weather and winds from the south west causing frequent rainfalls until October or November. In Siquijor, they are usually more prone to occur at night or early morning, allowing sunny days of adventures. However, there are more frequent low pressure events with heavy rains at this time.
For diving, during Habagat season, Siquijor, Larena and Enrique Villanueva’s coastline will offer calm waters and perfect diving conditions while it will be more windy and wavy in San Juan, Lazi and Maria. We highly recommend a dive in Tulapos to enjoy the schools of barracudas or in Caticugan sanctuary to see Giant Clams at this time of the year.
